Work-Based Learning

Work-Based Learning (WBL) is an opportunity for juniors and seniors (16 years or older) to earn high school credit for taking the course, Career Practicum  under a certified work-based learning teacher, and complete a capstone WBL experience.  A capstone experience is simply the successful completion of an experience that is specifically determined related to the student's goals and the class standards.

Work-Based Learning provides students the opportunity to partner with local businesses that are aligned with their course of study. One may consider taking this course to apply classroom concepts to practical situations in the workplace, to explore career options, and pursue future employment-related goals in a more comprehensive format.  The Career Practicum course standards are not specific to any particular industry, rather they focus on competitive employability skills. Thus, flexibility in scheduling for the student may need to be considered to support program goals.
