Survey of the Planets


Show Synopsis: The planets of the Solar System are discussed in detail, including relative sizes and distances. Formation of the Solar System and several moons are also introduced. Following the 37-minute automated portion of the show, visitors will examine the current night sky, including constellations, asterisms, and star clusters. The visit is concluded with an audio-driven laser light show.

Objectives:

Length: The automated portion of this presentation lasts approximately 37 minutes. The entire length of the visit to the Planetarium is about one hour.

Grade Range: Ninth Grade and above, college, and the general public.

Pre-Planetarium Preparation: Test the students’ ability to name the planets in order, as well as their relative sizes and distances.

Post-Planetarium Projects: Teachers will be provided with a project sheet of related ideas to do with their students following their visit.
