Monoceros (Mon)
"The Unicorn"

Location:  R.A. = 7h, Dec. = 0

History:  Monoceros, or the Unicorn, is a modern constellation, first described by Petrus Plancius, a Dutch astronomer, in 1613.  Because it is a new constellation, there is no classical mythology associated with it.

Other Interesting Sights:  The Rosetta Nebula is within this constellation.  This particular nebula is a cloud of hydrogen ions being heated and lit by the young bright stars in the open cluster behind it.  This nebula is actually separated into several areas, designated NGC2237-9, 46.  The open cluster in the center of the nebula is NGC2244.
