History: An inconspicuous and unimpressive constellation in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also very dim, with the brightest star in this constellation, Alpha Circinus, being only magnitude 3. Circinus, or the Drawing Compass, was first described by Abbe Nicholas Louis de Lacaille when he mapped the Southern Hemisphere sky from the Cape of Good Hope during the years of 1751 to 1753. Since this is a modern constellation, there is no classic mythology associated with the figure.
