Description: An inconspicuous constellation in the Southern Hemisphere. The constellation of Antlia was created by Abbe Nicholas Louis de Lacaille who, from 1751 to 1753, mapped the stars of the Southern Hemisphere from the Cape of Good Hope. De Lacaille gave the constellation a full name of Antlia Pneumatica. It first appeared on his sky charts in 1763 as a pump recently invented by Denis Papin, the French physicist.
