Our Place in Space

Running Time: 45 - 60 minutes

A cast of endangered animals takes planetarium visitors on a unique and colorful experience! Scarlett McCaw finds a crossword puzzle book and tries to solve one entitled “Our Place in Space.” Scarlett must get help from her animal friends, including an Indian elephant and a polar bear! The animals all try to figure the puzzle out, using everyday examples and ideas to finally arrive at the correct answers. By doing so, the program indirectly addresses, and corrects, common misconceptions about basic astronomy. For example, the animals wonder if it could be the wind or the clouds that move the Sun across the sky. Finally, Scarlett finds herself on the nature reserve surrounding the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and goes on an imaginary rocket-ride through the Solar System and beyond.

For pre-kindergarten through first grade students.
The program concludes with a live look at the current night sky.
