Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) is just one of the many vocational classes offered at Heritage High School. This class gives students a chance to explore the many opportunities available in the medical field. Along with learning about health occupations, students learn skills they could use later in life, such as blood pressure. Have you ever had a doctor use abbreviations you didn’t understand? In HOSA one of the many things you learn is medical terminology. Not only will knowing medical terms and abbreviations boost your confidence when talking to a doctor, but it will make you appear to be “in the know”. HOSA also teaches students the proper way to care for patients. In this class students learn about malpractice, neglegence, and what you can and can't do when it comes to caring for a patient. Students also help with BMI clinics and the Medic Blood Drive. HOSA is a great learning experience when it comes to the medical field. Many students that join HOSA don’t know what they want to do or if they want to be involved in the medical field and with the help of HOSA they are able to make that decision. HOSA is a great program to be in if you’ve ever thought about being a doctor or had any interest in the medical field.
HOSA Mission Statement:: The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
