Classroom Expectations
- Respect the teacher, your classmates, and yourself at all times.
- Come prepared to class everyday. You must bring your English notebook, a pen or pencil (blue or black ink only), and loose leaf paper EVERYDAY.
- Be a part of a safe classroom environment where All students feel comfortable to expresss his/her opinions. In addition, accept everyone no matter what their opinions are and express your opposition in a respectful manner.
Grading
- Independent assignments and quizzes will be graded on a 100 points scale.
- Daily class work will be graded on a 50 points scale (participation).
- Writing assignments will be graded by the process Prewriting-50 pts. Rough Draft-100 pts. Editing/Revision-50 pts. Final Draft- graded with a holistic score 1-6
- Holistic scoring is worth: 1= 40%, 2= 60%, 3= 70%, 4= 85%, 5= 93%, 6= 100%.
- Unit Tests over literature periods beginning with Early American Literature will be worth 200 pts.
Notebook
- You must have either a three ring binder or a two-pocket folder for English 3 only.
- You must keep your table of contents in the front of your notebook.
- You will receive a participation grade at the end of each 4 1/2 weeks grading period for having all contents in your notebook.
- The notebook will consist of ACT preparation materials, vocabulary, literary terms, and Writing Workshop handouts.
- All materials in the notebook will be used as a study guide for the final exam, and to prepare for the TCAP Writing Assessment to be held on February 3, 2009
Homework
- Homework will be given on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
- Mondays will be grammar practice, Wednesdays homework will be linked to the writing assignment for the week. Thursdays homework will involve an assessment of skills we have covered for that week or for the last two weeks (unit tests).
Make up Work
- Students must ask for their make up work upon returning from an absence.
- Students will have 5 school days to turn in their work upon returning to school.
- STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN MAKE UP WORK!!
If you need assistance, please come by and see me in the morning or afternoon before and after classes. I am here by 7:45 a.m. and I leave around 4:30 p.m. I can come earlier of stay later if necessary. You may call me at the school at 984-8110.
