Heritage High School
Principles of Marketing and Management 1
(Tony Hardin)
Welcome to the marketing education and DECA program of Heritage High School. This class is a study of the many aspects of business and applied economics. It is a class in which work ethics and professionalism are graded efforts. The following is an outline of how grades will be assigned for this course:
1. Work Ethics.
A simple meaning of ethics is to do what is right. Businesses are looking for potential employees. The work ethics for my class are being on time for class and for activities, following dress code and dressing appropriately for meetings and activities, coming to class prepared, being alert and on task.
2. Participation and classroom involvement
This class is ont of many vocational or career and technical programs. In vocational education, students are expected to apply what is learned in class. In the state of Tennessee, it is required that each vocational program and each teacher have an active youth organzation.
3. Homework/daily assignments 25%
4. Exams/Quizzes 30%
Heritage Rules and Policies
1. Materials needed include a hardback binder with an outside sleeve for a cover page. Each student will need a yellow highlighter, wide rule paper and pen or pencil. A basic calculator would be good.
2. Membership in DECA is required. This is not a class fee and as such, cannot be waived because of fee waiver eligibility. the fee is $22.00.
3. Constant neglect in bringing materials to class will be penalized.
4. Ctudents may not use the marketing computers without a signed internet contract.
5. Students must not leave the classroom without permission. students who leave the classroom, for any reason, must sign in or out.
6. Each student will be assigned two shifts to work in one of the two school stores. It is the responsibility of each student to check the schedule and to make arrangements with Sarah Russell.
7. Being tardy will affect your work ethics grade. Each time a student is tardy, 25 points will be deducted from that day's grade. after the third tardy, the student will be assigned detention.
8. It is the responsibility of the student to make-up assignments following absences. If the absence is unexcused, the work can't be made up.
9. Each student must demonstrate an understanding of industry standards, also called performance indicators, as outlined by the State of Tennessee.
10. There are opportunities within the marketing/ DECA program to get involved and to find something within the programs that interests you.
