Description:

Theatre Arts II offers continued acting instruction following the completion of Theatre Arts I. Students will have the opportunity to perform and / or operate in backstage crews while producing one or two one-act plays. Students will also be responsible for organization and maintenance of a portfolio, stage and hand props, scripts, documentation of activities through photo collages and journals, and all aspects of stage / set design and implementation. Other theatre related projects, such as duet acting, storytelling, puppetry, and script writing will be introduced, as well.

Requirements:

Beyond the completion of Theatre Arts I, you must be responsible and mature to take this course. You must also have a positive attitude. Your attitude and maturity level will affect everyone taking this course.

 

First Nine Weeks

First Four Weeks: Play Preparation

Introduction games, creative dramatic exercises, audience etiquette, group process, trust, team spirit, writing skills, fundraising, pantomime, improvisation, hot seat, auditions, crews established, memorization.

 

During this time, a play (or plays) will be selected, and students will begin preparing for play production.

 

Second Five Weeks: Development of Acting Techniques

Stage movement, stage directions, articulation, projection, and other vocal exercises, developing an understanding of characterization, play rehearsal, crew operations.

 

Second Nine Weeks

First Five Weeks:

Fine-tuning of play, technical rehearsal, dress rehearsal, play performance, monologue writing, reader's theatre performance.

 

Second Four Weeks:

Completion of any projects which need additional time, set strike, prop room organization, storytelling.

Final Exam.

There may be some overlap of topics between interims, and the schedule is always subject to change.
