David Murrell

Assistant Director, Operations

 

David Murrell is the Assistant Director of Operations for Blount County Schools. In this role, he is responsible for the administrative oversight of all operational divisions, including: athletics, attendance, campus safety, coordinated school health and student health services, the extended school program, the Family Resource Center, human resources, student information, and transportation.  

 

He has served his entire professional career in the Blount County School district. Prior to his current role, Mr. Murrell filled posts as:

  • Assistant Director of Schools from 2011-2015;
  • Supervisor of Human Resources from 2010-2011;
  • Supervisor of Elementary Education and Federal Programs from 2007-2010;
  • Assistant Principal of Mary Blount Elementary from 2005-2007; and,
  • Elementary teacher at Porter Elementary from 1998-2005.

 

Mr. Murrell holds a Specialist in Education degree from Tennessee Technological University, as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in education from The University of Tennessee.

 

He also leads several special projects involving differentiated pay, the new teacher academy and mentoring programs, the aspiring administrators academy, teacher recruitment, and employee recognition.

 

Additionally, Mr. Murrell serves on several board of education committees related to collaborative conferencing, transportation, the district’s yearly calendar, and its sick leave bank. He is an advisor for the Blount County Resource Center and a member of the Blount County Commission’s Human Resources Committee.
