Online Virus Protection

Bitdefender, an online virus scan, is now available to us on the web. It only works with Internet Explorer (IE), but it could be a useful tool in helping to keep your computer "healthy". If you do not have good virus protection software, you might want to consider running this about once a week. Click the Directions link and print. Follow the directions to give your computer a "checkup".

The first time Housecall is run using Netscape, a setup file must be installed. Click the HouseCall link and follow the instructions at the site to download the setup file to your desktop. Print these instructions if necessary. Then close Netscape.

• Double-click setup.exe and run the program, following the instructions as directed.
• Open Netscape and go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/
• Click on scan without registering. If necessary, choose US for the country. If this is the first time using HouseCall, expect to wait several minutes while the scanner loads. This time will be shorter the next time you visit.
• When HouseCall finishes loading in the window, it shows a list of the disk drives on the computer. Click on C:\.
• Click the SCAN button to start and wait for the files to be scanned.
• When HouseCall finds a virus, it will it will list the name of the virus as well as the name of the infected file.
• Click on the Clean button to remove the virus. Certain viruses which are identified as "uncleanable", should simply be deleted.
