Hello Parents,

This newsletter is being sent home with report cards.  Please take time to review your child’s progress during this school year and the final grading period.

Our annual Bear Run was once again a huge success raising  $15,757.03! It is amazing to see how people volunteer and donate to make this successful for our school as well as fun for our students!  A tremendous thank you to everyone involved!

Last Friday Mrs. Wilson’s class, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Woods, and Mrs. Cook opened  our snack counter and raised $489.66! Thanks to everyone for all the help!

I hope you have had the pleasure of seeing our new pavilion on the K/1 playground.  We would like to thank the Moss Brother’s Builders for donating the labor to complete this project for our PTO and us.  They certainly have been good friends to MBE!! Thank you Moss Brother’s Builders!

We have two Summer School opportunities to share with you:

§         The Kindergarten Readiness program is available to students who will be attending kindergarten beginning in August 2007.  Enroll on June 2nd at the school. The program dates are June 2-June 27.

§         The Sixth Grade Academy is a program that helps upcoming 6th graders transition to the middle school.  Due to construction it will be held at WBHS  beginning on Jun 2 through June 27.

During the summer please continue to collect those boxtops, soup labels, etc. as the money we receive from those programs continue to be beneficial.  It all adds up to extra things at MBE for our students!

We would like to wish each one of you a restful, fun, and safe summer holiday.  It has been our pleasure to work with you and your student.  We look forward to seeing you again July 28th for registration! Remember to bring proof of residence due to the rezoning of our school district!  Enjoy your summer!

Appreciatively~~Mrs. Bell and Mr. Painter

Bear Hugs!!

To all our wonderful Mary Blount Supporters, Parents and Students,

What would we do without you?  Thank you for making the Bear Run such a success again this year. While the object of the day is to make money for our school, watching the children enjoy something so much makes the day even more special.

We would like to recognize Cody Wilhite and Trent Cooley for being the top money earners for the Bear Run. The top earning classes were Mitchell, Blankenship, Rodgers, Small, Bangash, and Falcon.  These classes received a cookie for The Great American Cookie Company.  The second top money earning classes received a Popsicle party which including the following classes Main, Massaro, Robinson, Abbott, Wilson, and Boling.

Have a wonderful summer break and be sure to check out the Family Guide to Healthy Eating at www.schoolwellnesskit.org./parents.

From the Art Department

Mrs. Woods

The Art Room has been buzzing with activity as we have finished our last projects of the year.  We have painted our clay, returned artwork, and have been reviewing what we have learned.  Encourage your child to share his/her artwork with you.  They are so proud of what they have created and accomplished!  Also, engage your child in creative artwork activities this summer, either indoors or out!  Painting, drawing, and sculpting are great ways for your child to express their personality and cope with hardships and emotions.  I hope you have a great summer and I am looking forward to next year!

From the Music Department:

Mr. Hurst
Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a successful year for music students at Mary Blount.  Through a combined effort, there was a 4th/5th grade musical Bear Night on weather, a K/1st grade Christmas musical Bear Night, and a 2nd/3rd grade musical Bear Night on reading.  We also had performances at McGhee Tyson Airport, Standard Aero, and the Blount County Courthouse.  Our kindergarten and 1st grade enjoyed their end of the year promotion program and the "V is for Volunteer" program.  We are also proud of the students who represented us at the Music Fair and Elementary School Spring Sing.  And, of course, the favorite of all activities ended our school year---the annual Mary Blount Talent Show.  Have a great summer and see you in August!

From the Media Department

Mrs. Bivens

Ms. Kathy and I are always busy in the library, but the end of the school year is probably our busiest time of year.  We have had a very productive year and are presently working on the end-of-the-year activities to close out the library for the 2007-2008 school year.  We are in the process of “reading” the shelves (making sure that each book is in the right numerical and alphabetical order), inventorying all of our books and audio-visual materials, and preparing to start the inventory report.  We are also preparing bills for students who have lost or unreturned books, ordering next year’s magazine subscriptions and student workbooks, and gathering the textbooks for the students who will be moving to the new Union Grove School next year.  So as you can see, we are busily closing out this year and thinking ahead to the 2008-2009 school year.

Please make plans to visit the Blount County Public Library this summer and encourage your child to read, read, read…..  As I often tell my students, “The more you read, the better you get….. The better you get, the more you read…..”

Have a great summer!
