![]() A note from our Principal Mrs. Janet Johnson The staff of Fairview School is excited about the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. Our custodians have worked all summer cleaning and polishing our facility and grooming and clipping our campus to prepare for your arrival. They do a wonderful job keeping our school in top-notch shape. Our teachers have continued to write curriculum and prepare a stimulating environment, which will challenge our students. Your children are precious to us and our vision is to prepare them for the next challenge as they progress through their lives. Grade K-3 will have a new basal reading series this year, which is based on the Four Block approach to reading that was utilized successfully last year. Grades 4-5 will also use the Four Block framework and integrate reading strategies with science and social studies standards. All classes will be using Saxon Math and many will also utilize the Accelerated Math computer program. The Fairview staff has been involved in I.T.I., (Integrated Thematic Instruction), for at least eight years. As of the 2006-2007 school year, all Blount County Elementary Schools adopted this approach to teaching. The founder of I.T.I., Susan Kovalik, has recently changed the name from I.T.I. to H.E.T. (Highly Effective Teaching). We know that our children are benefiting from what has been learned from this brain-based program. We are excited to continue to grow as educators, as we are life-long learners. As our nation becomes more focused on the wellness of our children, we are encouraging fitness through the following efforts:
In May of 2007, Fairview was awarded the Earth Flag and received an Environment Award from Blount Beautiful. Please help us reach the next level in the Earth Flag program by helping us recycle the following items:
We also need volunteers to help us make improvements on our outdoor environment. Our students began a composting program last year and we are ready to use the mulch that we have created. As you can see, we have a busy year planned. Won't you consider supporting us as we strive to grow responsible citizens? Volunteer to listen to children read, help raise funds, (current projects are the playground and the keyboard lab), help in the classroom, assist with our outdoor environment, produce the monthly newsletter, run the copier, etc. Together we can do great things for our students, our community, and our world. We can make a difference! With
