I am very excited to have
your child in art class this year! We
will be talking about art (learning about artists,
artworks, materials, techniques and processes), creating art (practicing
new skills, following instructions, exploring real and imaginary art
and have fun), and thinking about art (understanding the
elements and principles in artworks, discussing the ideas and moods in
artwork and evaluating the characteristics and merits of
artworks)!
We will be experimenting with a variety of materials and processes,
based on the availability of resources in the school, such as:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Printmaking
- Sculpting
- Textile Design
Our lessons will be centered
on the Tennessee State Curriculum Standards for Elementary Art,
focusing on the identification and implementation of the Elements of
Art and Principles of Design. Out theme for the school year in
art is "World
Gallery of Art".
In order to maintain a safe
and successful learning environment, we will be implementing the
Lifelong Guidelines and Life Skills as well as the following art
classroom procedures:
Art
Class Procedures
- Listen to the Teacher.
- Raise your hand to speak.
- Stay in your seat.
- Use a quiet voice.
- Keep hands, feet, and

safely.

- The Student will be directed to a "time-out" area until
they can show the correct behavior.

- A student may be
immediately sent to the office for any action that is uncontrollable or
that prohibits classroom learning.
Materials for most all
projects will be supplies for your child in art class, however, I may
request special items to be sent at various times. Also, if you
would like to contribute to the art room resources, I will take
donations of the following items:
- Magazines (appropriate for elementary students)
- pictures for files (faces, animals, landscapes, people,
cities, and more)
- wipes for tables
- facial tissue
- newspapers
- aluminum foil and wax paper
- q-tips
- disposable plastic plates and bowls
If you have any questions or
concerns you may leave a message with the school and I will be happy to
respond. I look forward to fun in art with your child the year!
