Turkey Trot for Education
November 22, Clayton Homes Turkey Trot for Education 2009 will be held at the Clayton Homes Corporate Headquarters at 5000 Clayton Road, Maryville.  This is a 5k run and 1 mile fun walk with all donations going directly to the Blount County Education Foundation.  To learn more about this event and to register, please click on the underlined link above.

Pictures and Yearbooks

Christmas pictures will be taken on Tuesday, November 3rd.  Unlike the other portraits, this one comes home as an already printer package.  You pay for the ones you want and send the rest back to us.  Parent volunteers are needed each picture day.  Parent volunteers will receive a $25.00 credit towards portraits for spending the day going and getting classes for the photographers.  Please call the school and ask for Tracy Riggs if you are able to help.

Yearbooks will be sold during the month of January.  Yearbooks will be $22.00.

Music Notes music2
Our Kindergarten and 2nd Grade students will present a Christmas music program in our gym on Thursday, December 3rd at 6:00 p.m.  Students should wear red and green and arrive by 6:15 P.M. for vocal warm-ups and line up.  We look forward to hearing these students perform.

Fall Essay Contest
The Enrichment Team is hosting a November creative writing / essay contest for the students,.  The winners will receive a catered lunch with Mr. England in the Library.  The topic this year is "How Service to My Country Benefits Others".  All entries are due November 13th at 8:00 a.m.  For more information please see the flyers at school.

Fairview Blanket Drive
As part of our community service project, the third grade will be collecting new and used clean blankets for the homeless.  There is an overwhelming need.  The blankets were gone in about two minutes last winter and there were still about fifty people waiting in line to get one at the Knoxville Area Rescue Mission.  Any third grade teacher can accept the donations.  We would like to have them collected and ready to distribute by Friday, November 6th.

Accelerated Reader Store
We are planning to offer an additional option for spending those hard earned AR points at our December store.  Area grocery stores have agreed to donate non-perishable food items which can be purchased by students with their points.  The Fairview Family Team will then donate these items to a food bank on behalf of the student.  This will give students a chance to serve the community with their reading efforts.

Fund Raising
It Could Be Us This Year!

November 13, 2009 through January 15, 2010 is the U.S. Cellular contest.  All you have to do is go by a branch and get a code to use online to vote for your favorite school if you are a subscriber or not.  Last year Heritage and Bearden Schools won 10 grand and other prizes.  The ten schools with the most votes will receive $100,000 to use however they choose, so help support Fairview.  Go out and vote.  For more information check out the web site at www.uscellular.com/callingallcommunities

Winter Wonderland
The Fairview Family Team is hosting a Holiday Dance for Friday, December 11th.  Pricing will be be $10.00 per person or $20.00 for family and no drop offs please.  Family portraits with a winter backdrop will be available, for every portrait package sold a portion will be donated back to the school.  All funds raised will go towards the playground.  We are hoping to purchase swings!

Dinner Dilemma Solved
1.  Order from Papa John's on the first Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of every month from now until the end of the school year.  (Beginning November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th)
2.  Remove price label from side of pizza boxes and attach label to "Dollars for Dough" form.
3.  Return form / receipt to your child's homeroom teacher by November 6th.
4.  Papa John's gives Fairview 20% of every receipt turned in!
5.  Applaud yourself and Papa John's for helping our awesome school!!!

Remember:
Keep in mind that, even though no prizes are offered for Tyson A+ promotions of Coke product rewards, Fairview does collect these items and receives cash / supplies for these redemptions.  Tyson A+ for Schools offers $0.32 per label; these can be found on Tyson chicken bags and boxes in the freezer section.  Be sure to turn in the entire label.  For codes found on Coke products, go to the web site mycokerewardes.com enter the codes and then choose to donate your points to Fairview.  It you prefer to turn in your Coke bottle caps or carton tops to your teacher, Fairview can enter the codes for you.

Kroger is not offering a fundraising opportunity through their Kroger Plus cards this year.

The Food City Rewards Program has changed this year, but we can still get things for our school.  To register, each person who has a Food City Value Card needs to tell the cashier at Food City to put in the code for Fairview, which is 40906, when they use their value card.  They only have to do this once, and their card is registered.  The registration from last year has expired.  For every $10.00 in Food City Exclusive Brand purchases in a single shopping trip, using your Food City Value Card, the school will receive 1 point toward their School Bucks Reward.  Participating brands include Food City, Food Club, Full Circle, Paws, Value Time, Top Care, Academix, Domestix, Electrix, Easy Clix, World Classics, Dining In, as well as Kay's Ice Cream, Terry's Snacks, Lay's Meats, Farmbest Milk, and Kern's Bread & Cake Products.  Checks will be giving to the school in May.

Oh Mitten Tree, Oh Mitten Tree
It's that time of year again, and with the shape the economy is in our community needs us more than ever.  This will be the 3rd annual Mitten Tree at Fairview this year, and hopefully the best turn out yet ever.  Several local organizations will be benefiting from this years donation.  Carpenters Middle will have their 2nd annual sock and slipper tree this year it you would like to give to it, you can drop the donation in the mitten box and it will be taken to the appropriate tree.  The tree will be located in the hallway just outside the Cafe.  Please have your child(ren) bring in NEW mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves to decorate out tree.  Thank you in advance Fairview!  It is going to be great!!!
