paintpaletKids ArtFair
Come to our Kids Art Fair on Tuesday, may 6th from 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. in the Cafe.  All second semester art students will have a professionally framed work of art on display and available for purchase.  Proceeds from the sale of the frames will benefit our school's art department.  Any artwork that is not purchased will be returned without the frame to the student.  parents who cannot attend may purchase their child's framed art in advance by completing an order form in the main office or when it is sent home a week before the show.  VOLUNTEERS are NEEDED to help set up the show, consolidate frames, direct traffic and remove unsold pieces.  Please call or email the art teacher, Mrs. England, to volunteer.

Cafe Charges
The Cafe is trying to collect money for charges.  Please send in money owed and make a note that children may not charge after May 9th.  Thanks for your help.

Parents Night Out
The next Fairview Family Team event will be a Parents Night Out.  It will be held on May 2nd, from 7:00 P.M. to midnight.  The fee will be $15.00 for the first child and $10.00 for each additional .  You will not have to pre-register your child.  Just bring the children to the cafe.  Once again, we are able to keep the inflatable items from the Mega-Party, so the children will have a blast while you have time to yourself.  All the money from this event will go towards the Playground.  We hope to see your children there.

Shinning Stars Reception
The Second Annual Shinning Stars Reception will be held on May 8th in the cafe.  Each classroom will select two students from their class who have exhibited the Lifelong Guidelines and Lifeskills through out the year.  We would like to recognize students who have given 100% effort and tried to fulfill their teacher's expectations.  If your child is selected by their classmates, you will receive an invitation to the Shinning Stars Tea where they will be recognized.

Fairview School Improvement Plan has been completed.  Strengths and Areas for Improvement Based on Data Collected.
After reviewing the date, the committee had identified at least one strength and at least one area for improvement for each grade level.  From those strengths and areas for improvement the committee developed a goal target for each.
Each grade level has some obvious strengths from which to build.  Kindergarten and First Grade data was gathered from AIMS Web assessments.  The Rate of Improvement (ROI) measurements for 2007 were above the nation and county measurements for the skill of phoneme segmentation.  Second Grade Terra Nova scored higher that the rest of the county in every subject area except Social Studies.  AIMS Web data was also used for Second and Third Grade strength measurements.  Both grade levels were above the nation and county measurements of ROI in the skill of words read correctly.  Fourth Grade continues to show a steady rate of growth in math and social studies on TCAP assessments.  Fifth Grade consistently scores an A on the annual TCAP writing assessment.
On the other hand, each grade level also has some areas for improvement based on the data gathered.  AIMS Web ROI scores for Kindergarten through Second Grade illustrate a need for focus on growing the higher achieving students more quickly.  Second and Third Grade Terra Nova scores display a need for focus on Science and Social Studies.  Based on TCAP scores, Fourth Grade should continue to focus on Math, while Fifth Grade should focus on Social Studies with special attention given to the area of Period 2.
The surveys collected from the faculty and staff, students, and parents are also a helpful tool in identifying strengths and areas for improvement.  The main strength indicated by the faculty and staff is that teachers are conscientious of identifying and re-teaching skills in response to student errors.  The main area for improvement mentioned on this survey is the lack of adequate opportunities to communicate with other teachers in other schools.  The main strength indicated by the student surveys is that students feel teachers are helpful when they have questions or do not understand.  The area for improvement indicated by students is that after-school activities do not have a high participation rate.  The most common strength indicated on parent surveys is that teachers care about their students and want to see them succeed.  On the other hand, an area for improvement is there should be more challenging opportunities for above average and gifted students.

As as result of this information, the following goals have been established:
The higher achieving students will exceed the current academic scores and TVAAS gains by 1% by 2010.

The students scores in AIMS Web and TCAP will increase by 5% in the area of Math by 2010.

The students TCAP scores will increase by 10% in the area of Science and Social Studies by 2010.

The following items or programs sere selected by the Leadership Team to assist teachers in re-teaching our goals:
  • A - Z Reading Subscription
