Principal Points to Ponder
Even though Americans recycle more and more yearly, the amount of waste is still increasing each year due to rising personal consumption and overall population growth and according to the US EPA; food waste is the #1 least recycled material.  Composting is the perfect way for families to recycle and reduce rather than to increase waste and pollution.  Of course we should encourage our children to only take the amount of food they expect to eat and to not be wasteful.  When we first started our school wide composting efforts, a little boy brought an apple from home for the compost bin.  He was so excited to compost but he unfortunately missed the point.  Vegetables, fruit and paper combined with oxygen breaks down into fertile soil and will eventually go back to nature by itself.  Would your family consider composting?
