How to Get Involved

March, 2009 Volunteer Training Session
There are many opportunities for members of the community to support Foundation activities and goals.
How can I find out what’s going on?
This web site will be updated regularly. The Recent News page will provide information about recent events and will post dates and times for future activity, including Board meetings. All Board meetings are open to the public.
How can someone enroll as a student?
Contact the Adult Education office at 865-982-8998. The student will attend an orientation, then complete a skills assessment. This will allow placement into classes that meet his or her individual needs. Classes and testing are available both during the day and in evenings to accommodate the schedules of adult students.
How do I volunteer to tutor?
Contact the Blount County Adult Education director, Carol Ergenbright, at 865-982-8998. Training sessions are usually held twice a year. Twelve hours of training focuses on techniques and available resources. No prior teaching experience is required, only a desire to help a student.
How can I volunteer to help with an event?
There are four big events during each school year - graduations in December and June, and two fundraisers. Local organizations sponsor teams who compete in the Spring Adult's Spelling Bee fundraiser which follows the format of the youth Spelling Bee. In addition to a delicious meal and noted speaker, the late Spring Fundraiser fundraiser provides an overview of the year’s Adult Education accomplishments.
Many hands are needed to successfully hold these events. Volunteers are appreciated for activities such as setting up chairs, overseeing refreshments and even participating as a speller in the Spelling Bee. Contact the Adult Education office at 865-982-8998.
How can I donate money?
The Adult Education Foundation of Blount County is a non-profit organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3). This means donations are tax-deductible and exempt from the federal income tax. Checks can be made out to “Adult Education Foundation of Blount County” and mailed to:
